Welcome to Lake Lanier! The choice of millions of visitors each year! Lake Lanier is located 30 minutes north of Atlanta, Georgia. Lake Lanier is approximately 38,000 acres and has over 690 miles of shoreline. Constructed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in the 1950s, Lake Lanier is a multi-purpose lake that provides for flood protection, power production, water supply, navigation, recreation and fish and wildlife management. Lake Lanier is known nationally for it's trophy striped bass fishery as well as its spotted bass fishery. The Lake Lanier record spotted bass is over eight pounds and the lake record striped bass is 47 pounds. However, do not be surprised if a fifty pound striper shows up any day. The striper fishing on Lake Lanier is truly some of the best fishing in the United States. Several tackle stores are located around the lake if you need striper tackle. Lake Lanier is surrounded with different types of recreational facilities. The Lake Lanier Rowing Venue was the site of the 1996 Olympic Canoe/Kayak and Rowing Games. There is also a 1,100-acre resort and over 46 park areas. Marinas are conveniently located throughout the lake. Several great restaurant are on the water. Lake Lanier is truly a recreation paradise.
