New to fishing and taking my 5 year old son out on the boat (12'w/trolling motor) today. We will put in at the south end near the Dam Store. Our tackle box is stocked with spinners, shad lures, spoons and rubber worms. Any suggestions would be great.

I am a little late. I hear the bass have really responded to the drop in water temp as expected. Some good fish are being caught on various moving baits like spinnerbaits, jerkbaits, and so in casting to points and schoolers. We picked up a nice 5lb spot yesterday v-waking the redfin. Today I would think the spinnerbait or rat-l-trap would have been the better bait with the sun and wind. Overall the next few weeks are considered "junk fishing" for bass due to the variety of things that would work. Of course free lines with bluebacks are not a bad idea for the kids, pulling them over main lake humps and points.

Thanks for your note. We pulled in a couple of spotted bass today. They were hitting jigs for us. We will try the bluebacks this weekend. My son is hooked and I have a feeling that we will need to upgrade to another boat soon.
