Please help me. I have been in Georgia for 15 years and have visited all of the local lakes in Gwinnett County and have never caught a thing. I went to Lake Lanier a few weeks ago to bank fish but was turned away because I did not have a boat. Sent me to the Dam but I have no clue where to start there. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE tell me where I can fish where the fish actually bite. I have got to catch something. Decent size bream, bass I am not picky.

If you can recommend anything please indicate what you would use for bait also. Thanks.

I fished under a bridge near the Pine Log WMA 2 weeks ago, and I did very well with the rainbow trout. Not sure what you are interested in catching. They stock this creek every 2 weeks; therefore, they should have stocked it this week (probably today). Hope this helps.

If you want to fish from the bank on Lanier, one good place is from the bank at Toto creek. Pull into the park and fish the trees in the water right beside the ramp or when you come into the park, park your car on the right and fish the back of the creek where the bridge crosses. I have caught crappie from here on the bank many times over the years. All you need is some crappie minnows, small light wire hooks and some small weighted floats.

If you like trout fishing you can fish behind the dam (lanier) yellow powerbait is your key to catching... just use a small treble hook 2ft away from a splitshot weight. Catch is you have to be in the water.. (when water is not being relese) just toss your power bait to any fast current and let it drift down and more then likely you will get a bit.. as to fishing the main lake the dam area use to be really good (striper), i say that because when i didn't have a boat a few years ago that's where we would fish from... (where the orange boueys is) use cut bait herring fish during the evening. you can fish till 10pm and then they'll (DNR) tell you to leave.

Thank you Capt.

I attempted to go to the main entrance at Lake Lanier right past the boats and the guard asked what I was coming for and when I said fishing she told me I had to go to the dam. Said it was a new rule. So you have seen people out there not on boats?

Rooster You can pull freelined BB 50-80 ft behind the boat in the very back of FC or at FC1 to the yellow mansion

want2fish,

You were trying to fish on private property (i cant tell where you were , either a marina or LL islands). The first thing you need to do is spend $8 on a lake map. The vast majority of the lake is open to fishing from the bank, you just have to find a park close enough to walk from.
