I read the Jan. article online. I don't get the magazine. My thoughts (positive and negative) on the subject don't have much weight, however I am VERY interested in the outcome.

What did the March article have to say? Legislation???

The red snapper are almost to the point now where it scares me to even catch one. They keep changing the seasons and bag limits in Florida regularly and Georgia is right behind them. A lot of really good Captains rely on the red snapper to draw in business and this will ultimately end a lot of that as well as put several out of business. The last few times I've been out fishing for them the ones that were too small were also not fast enough to get out of the way of the dolphins. As soon as they hit the water they are eatin - not just a few of them, every fish we threw back became food. Seems to be a slight flaw in the system. It will be interesting to see how that turns out.

Saw the article on line at GON. I'm not familiar with GA but it’s the same in FL. You would have to think IF.... there is a problem it is not from the weekend angler rod and reel guy. It must be from commercial nets over harvesting. But that picture of the captain’s one day haul certainly doesn’t help the weekend angler’s argument! The FL laws can be confusing, if you are on the bottom you better have circle hooks, de-hooker and a bladder inflator. You got a center console with a GA-xxx on the front the man WILL be checking you. And flipper loves the new laws with all the catch-release and swallow!!! They've turned into the park pigeon's of the gulf.

Does the same law apply if you catch it on a hook you can use it for bait because I'd sure like to hook up with flipper. LOL

I've been at the beach in Pensacola for a week now and actually saw a guy hook up with "flipper" at the end of the pier and fight it for about 20 minutes. I thought it was a spinner shark, ignored it, and kept on fishing.

Noticed a Sherrif's Deputy cruising down the pier on a four-wheeler a short while later and then cruising back down with a young kid in tow. Turns out he was the one that hooked "flipper" and fought him for a while. This is obviously illegal and the kid got a hefty fine (supposed to cut the line after a hook-up).

Looked like a hell of a fight though....

GON had a short clip again this month about it. Still saying they may ban all bottom fishing on the coast. Anyone seen any more details?

I think the only thing to do is call up a TV network and we can go fishing for the greenpeace friggin wierdo's (You know the whale wars dilberts) pretty soon this world will be a pile of garbo, thanks to this euforic attitude that never has nor never will work!!! Do not forget who rules this world.
