Copy of an e-mail I got the other day.
The Chattahoochee Cold Water Fishery Foundation invites you to join us to help preserve the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area sport fishery!!! On Monday, February 16th please meet us at Buford trout hatchery at 6AM at 3204 Trout Place Rd Cumming GA 30041. We will be using d-frame, surber and hester/dendy sampling methods to collect aquatic insects and crustaceans on six established sites every quarter since 1998. Bowmans Island, Settles Bridge, Old Jones Bridge, Island Ford, Morgan Falls and Cochran Shoals. Volunteers will need chest waders or you can observe from the bank. We should finish by noon at Cochran Shoals. Volunteers will need to provide their own transportation to travel to each site. This is a great opportunity to learn about public wade/access points throughout the CRNRA.
On Tuesday, February 17th we will meet at the Orvis Fly shop at 9AM at The Forum shopping center at 5161 Peachtree PKWY, suite 630, Norcross, GA 30092. Here we will be sorting and storing benthic macro invertebrates from specific sites in the comfort of the Orvis Fly shop indoor facility thanks to the generosity of Greg Morgan the store manager. We will have coffee and donuts and should be finished by 2PM. Don Pfitzer and Chris Scalley will be there to supervise and answer questions about our conservation project. Come learn about the biodiversity of the Chattahoochee and the fascinating aquatic communities that inhabit the river. We will be tying flies to imitate the highly anticipated 2009 spring hatches from 3PM until 5PM. Hatch charts are free!
We look forward to seeing you there!
Christopher Scalley
President of the Chattahoochee Cold Water Fishery Foundation
