The fish are on the FEED. Hit the lake around 1:00pm with two friends from the North GA Striper Club. Motored around the north end for 2 hours looking. Did some ice breaking in the back of a creek, Brett should post the video soon. Well we found the fish and boated ALOT of fish, I mean ALOT. Small baits, small hooks, light line. Missed or broke off another 20. Biblical portions of fish. Downrods at 18/20ft and slighty weighted free lines from 50 to 100 ft back. What a day! Most were 6 to 8lb with some 10 to 12lb thrown in for good measure! Brett has some awsome pictures of the graph, hopely he will post them soon. There was about a square mile with fish EVERYWHERE. It was unreal. A day that will be longly and fondly remembered for sure. Can you tell I'm exicted!! I am!

Congrats Mike, Brett! Sounds like a great day. Must've froze your tails off, except when catching fish \:D

Maybe one day Brett.....

Fished the lake today with a couple of experienced Lanier vets Mike M and Mike F. After the cold weather i didn't know what to expect. We really lucked into the fish today.

Found a lot of ice

And a lot of fish

This was the best day for numbers of fish i have had on the lake. We were so busy catching fish that when the bite was on, i was too busy to take any pics, and when it was slower, we were too busy re-baiting and retying rigs.

A triple toward the end of the day

We had bites on trout and gizzards, but most fish were biting little threads. Toward the end of the day we were using dead threads off the deck left over from the cast net that we thought were too small to bother to scoop into the tank hours before.

This is what we LEFT when we ran out of bait.

It was truly an exceptional day on the water. Thanks to the vets, because i would have still been fishing somewhere else. As the man says "there is no substitute for time on the water".

I start a new job on the first, so weekday fishing is rapidly coming to an end. Good luck, Brett

Lucked into?!? Lucked into?!? It was %100 fishing finding skill my boy! We graphed for 1.5 hours before we found those fish. It was pure graph reading skill I tell you! Well, maybe those birds helped a little, but just a little bit, I promise.

Luck was not making it to where we were heading, abandoning the plan, and going with the flow.

Plan - Plan there ain't no plan!

Seriously though, winter fishing can be really hard. One day you will work your butt off for 1 or no fish and other days they just jump in the boat. Winter is finicky for sure. I wish I knew what makes them school up and disperse so quickly in the winter. I have often founds HUGE masses of fish like this in the winter, but most times it a few here and few there. What triggers them to bunch up so good, only to break up 1 or 2 days later? Wish I knew, but I'm not there yet.
