Fished the dam today. water was stained heavy. Threw a glass minnow and picked up three small browns. Switched to a silver Mepps rooster tail and nothing. Switched to the same spinner in gold and couldn't get them off my hook fast enough. Fished the seams around the rocks near Bowman's Island. It was a great day on the water. A little scary being out there without the float tube in the stained water though. I hope it clears up soon. It has been this way for a while now. Anyone know why?

I think the stained water has to do with the de-stratification of the lake. Should clear-up around Christmas. Here's a recent thread about it:

Congrat's on a great trout fishing day!

The water is still stained as of 12/03/08, but it didn't seem to hurt the fishing much at all! I floated with a buddy today from the dam to GA 20. not much action by the dam ( only 2 small browns) but when we hit the slow stretch right before the big rapid at the bridge we caught 15 trout. All of the fish were nice, and the four rainbows that we caught were the biggest I have ever caught. The biggest one was 17 inches! I will post some pics when my buddy sends them to me. (if I can figure out how) We threw mepps number 4 rainbow patterns all day. I just bought a personal pontoon, so when it gets here it's on!

Put a bait tank on that personal pontoon of yours coming and keep the 17 inch trout - I will buy them for bait.

Fished from abbots bridge to Medlock today. the water down there looked better, but still real cloudy. It was hard to tell if there was a big change since it is so deep on that part of the river. I used my new pontoon today for the first time. It is going to take some practice, but I really enjoyed being out of the water to fish. I caught 5 nice browns and one small rainbow. They all hit on an R5 Rapala (sinker). When we put in, the fish were rising all over the place and I probably could have gotten 50 or so, but that new pontoon has been sitting in my garage for two weeks unused, and I just couldn't wait. Goi again on Sunday. I will rport.

Were you up by buford dam? Is it still clear that close to the lake? I was there a few weeks ago and the water looked nasty.

Yeah, fished all day yesterday from the dam to the island and back. I only caught 3. The first two came on the first 5 casts and were very nice. the other one came late in the day. The water was crystal clear. I guess that had something to do with the slow bite.

I want to take Raliegh on his first crappie trip tomorrow. The problem is that I have never crappie fished on Lanier... any suggestions? I bought some 1/32 and 1/16 jigs today. Troll? Docks? any help is greatly appreciated. Skiffya?

Thanks!

Hope you did well, today. Wish I would have got to this sooner. I would have suggested the back of Gainesville Creek near the metal dock. There were some slabs back there a week ago.

Thanks Skiffya. We did terrible. Clay offered up some advice, but my trolling motor plug broke and I was frustrated and the boy was rambunctious. we tried a few docks on the south end, but quit and trolled some rattle traps around the points. not much luck today. maybe I will try again in a few weeks.
