I finally heard back from some marine biologists on the subject of lactic acid acidosis. The Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego has researched this thoroughly and while they can't offer any percentages, say that the quicker the fish get back to cooler oxygen rich water the better and further hypothesized that if they swim down on their own, (not sink), that the chances are good for survival. Swimming means the gills are functioning, and taking in oxygen. I, as well as all of you, have watched them swim down. Lets hope they are right at least half the time.
Now.
Pawn yer truck titles boys and go get an SI graph. LOL, I got one, my wife doesn't know, it's awesome, you can tell which side of the boat they are on, how many there are, thus which way they are moving. Once they are out of range however, its back to hunting. Its a little tricky, and I still haven't worked the bugs out yet, but it has helped me already. You switch from standard sonar, (its not quite as good as lowrance), to SI and adjust accordingly. I have seen a shopping cart under the McEver Rd. bridge back in flowery branch, and sunken boats out from Old Federal and Charleston Park. Also saw the old road bed by the C bouy.
Don't worry guides, it doesn't tell you where the fish are or how to catch them but it sure gives you a wider range of view. I have only went out with it three times. Fish on bretheren.........a
