Headed to Pensacola next week for a family vacation & hopefully a good amount of fishing.

I have a Carolina Skiff as well as a 17' center console to use at the rental house so I am planning on doing both some inshore/flats fishing for trout/reds/flounder as well as some king mackerel fishing outside of the pass (blue fish & spanish as well).

Got a guide last time so I think I have a pretty good idea of what I need to be doing.

I will post a report when I get back to let you guys know how I did.

Got out on the bay this morning and it was a little rough with the wind, but tolerable.

Caught one shark, a few sea trout and a bunch of large sail cats (slimy suckers but they put up a heck of a fight).

Hooked a small tarpon (probably about 30 lbs.) for all of about 2 seconds, on the smallest rod in the boat of course. Was using a spot sticker jighead tipped with a small menhaden that I had castnetted earlier.

Planning on netting some larger baits tomorrow so hopefully will get into some bigger fish!

Where are your big fish pictures? Must see. I told you to come back with some good fish tales...tell me a story.

Well Skiffer, it's like this...

Boat problems the rest of the trip so no more fishing reports (bilge pump went out, problems with fuel pump). The boat(s) were provided with the rental house and they all had issues!

I have another trip scheduled down there next month and I will be taking my own boat this time.

Has the words "I want my money back" crossed your mind..........

Oh yeah, those words crossed my mind....and my lips.

The guy came out as soon as I called and installed a new bilge pump and a new hose on the gas tank - which is what he thought the problem was. I gave him an "A" for effort at least.

I was disappointed, but I was down there with my wife and new baby, my sister lives there, and my parents were in town, so I got to spend more time with them. The house had a pool so I just sat back, drank my share of cold ones, and relaxed.

Trip next month: Strictly a guys trip, hard core fishing, more fishing reports, and pictures......

Man that sucks. Oh well, at least you enjoyed the trip...that's what it's all about anyway...rest and reeeeeeeeeeelaxation. Hope all is going well with the new edition to the family. Same to you Corey, Clay, and anyone else who has been blessed recently.

Hope your "guys only trip" goes better...I believe it will. Something about all that testosterone...think it attracts the larger females...with fins of course!

If anyone is planning a fishing trip down there (Pensacola) let me know. I found an awesome deal on a nice house that is on the canal about 100 yards from the entrance to the bay. VERY nice 3 br/2 bath house, dock for boat, screened back porch overlooking the canal/bay/bridge, etc. Only $550 per week!

And no, I don't know the owners or get any commission. It's just a remarkable deal in my opinion. Other rental houses in the area are going for about $1000/week right now.
