Got back out on the lake today after taking afew days off. Not much has changed.Personally, I am still catching more fish on the north end but I have heard great reports down south as well. Absolutely very few people out today. One of the few times I can say i did not see a single person fishing that I knew. All our fish came on herring 30 to 40 ft down over a 80 ft bottom mostly near tree lines. Still using a 1 1/2oz carolina type downline with a 12 to 15 lb flourocarbon P-line leader with a 3/0 octopus hook. Good electronics are crucial right now. If you want to take someone for the first time now is the time to go. The number of bites are as good as it gets.

I also returned to the lake on Sunday for a family day. Marked fish 50-55 down on slick bottom. I saw numerous "window shoppers" on the graph.

I was changing baits every 10 minutes or so...but I still watched at least 6-8 fish swim up to the bait and then...swim away. All of our fish were caught on VERY fresh and froggy downlined herring in 50' of water or more. When I got into 40 something feet it was dead.

I would expect you were on the north end. Have not seen that problem yet on the south end.

Just a guess..........I've seen quite a few folks fishing in Vann's - enough for me to stay away. Maybe them fishes are a little beat up right now (spooky anyway). Or, maybe you could try a smaller pound test flourocarbon leader and make it an extra foot or two longer.
