Below is an email I received from Judah Clark about a petition to allow the use of live bait below Morgan Falls.

Greetings Fellow Anglers,

You are receiving this e-mail because you signed our petition to allow the use of live bait in the Chattahoochee River below Morgan Falls Dam which has was recently "unofficially" changed making it illegal to do so, even though has been legal for so many years.

Great news! It looks as if our petition is working and the DNR is doing the right thing as they have proposed changes to the regulations to allow live bait to be used in this area. There is now a Bill HR869 before the Georgia General Assembly. This bill will allow the DNR to make ruling changes on trout waters that have a significant striped bass population, and allow the use of live bait fish in these sections. Please contact your state representative and senator, and ask them to vote for this bill. We need to do this as quickly as possible as this bill may be voted on as early as Friday morning 2-10-2012.

Example email to send to your local representative:

Subject: Please Support Bill HR869

Dear "Your State Representative and Senator",

I am writing you to ask that you support Bill HR869 to allow the Department of Natural Resources to make changes to the Georgia fishing regulations. One such proposed change will allow anglers to use live bait while fishing in the Chattahoochee River below Morgan Falls Dam. We support this bill and ask that you do the same.

Protecting this stretch of river as a trout stream during the summer months is ineffective since runoff, and the stagnant water in Bull Sluice heat this section of the river to levels which are difficult for trout to live in during the summer months. So, the chances of actually catching a trout with live bait during the summer are considerably less than catching another species of fish the striped bass which thrives during the warmer months.

Thank you for your time and consideration,

Your Name
Your District or Address
Your Phone

Please send this e-mail, or any similar e-mail you like, to both your Georgia state representative and senator.

To look up your local state representative visit: http://www.house.ga.gov/Representatives/en-US/HouseMembersList.aspx

To look up our state senators visit: http://www.senate.ga.gov/senators/en-US/SenateMembersList.aspx

There is a link on the page of each state representative and senator to e-mail them.

We appreciate everyone's effort in this matter and hopefully sooner than later things will be back to where they were. Once this bill is passed there may be a publicly held meeting we will need to attend to voice our opinions on the matter and we expect heavy opposition so stay tuned.

Please remember, this is not a petition to use live trout on the river only live bait in general.

Details regarding this petition can be found at www.StriperFishingAtlanta.com

Thank you,

Judah Clark

I don't think it has been resolved yet.
