First time down to SGI in October lookin' forward to great fall conditions but hit freakish winds and weird weather for first half of week, but we were able to find a few good days-one to get off short and a few others to fish the cut in the right time.

We were fortunate enough to find a few good fish, the first of which was a 54"/60# cobia, which hit a pin fish down deep on an offshore tower:

the next day, we hit anchored in the cut and picked up a nice bull red which went 44" and 26# which we released to hopefully become a 30+ pounder next year.

Drove home today in perfect weather (go figure) and had 2 1/2 hour delay to fix "imploded" inner trailer bearing to make end of trip a true adventure

the only way I have ever caught a cobia is in spring on the sand bars, spotting them in the tower and casting live eels at them. That's cool hearing they can be caught other ways...that's some goo eatin fish right there! Good job!

My stepdad just came back from there with a 64 pounder that they caught offshore with a dead cigar minnow. He said they were schooling and he finally got one to hit sight fishing to it. St. George and that whole area is loaded with fish. We are going back down in October to chase some grouper and redfish.

The amount of bait we saw inshore, offshore and near the cut was just unbelieveable. I'm fair at best with a cast net, but I threw it twice on an inshore buoy and a dock near the cut and filled it twice and could barely pull it in it was so heavy with bait.

Off shore at one of the towers, it was insane with the bait fish - you couldn't find the bottom on the sonar for it.

On the outside of the cut at sunset EVERY night, the giant tarpons were scattering pogies and green backs with every roll - one of the coolest sights I've ever seen.

With that much bait in the area, I'm surprise there wasn't more numbers of game fish havin' a feeding frenzy!

Perhaps they were stuffed full! When my folks used to leive down there we would hunt those Tarpons down from Alligator Point. We hooked into a few but could never land them. I love that area down there. The best part if very few people know what kind of fishing is available there.
