Fishing is still not easy but we are consistently catching fish. Just not the huge numbers that are typical for this time of year but this has happened before when a hurricane comes through and kills the open water bite. Downlines continue to be the only thing I am doing. No leadcore or anything else. It is just a mixed up bag of everything. A few stripers, a few bass, and a few catfish. See everyone out there this weekend.

I was anxious to hear how you did yesterday. We pulled around the point to the south of you yesterday morning and we're just starting to put lines out when we started marking quite a few fish over fairly shallow bottoms around 35 to 40 feet. We didn't get bit in the few minutes they were on the screen but we lost them fairly quickly. We heard someone in your boat hollar "we'll be back" and wondered if you had better success-obviously from your pictures you did. Were thes bites early in the morning?

we then moved to the open water side of the north end of that island and marked even more fish over a 50 foot bottom, with the same results - I tried power reeling a bucktail with Chartreuse trailer with no success as our BB's were not getting any respect. Finally, we had identical experience in shallow (35 foot bottom) in front of Vann's and finally decided we'd have more success ordering a cheeseburger at Holiday than getting a Striper to bite.

I didn't see him there. I got mine. The restaurant at Holiday has new owners and it is better than it was in years past. If I heard right, they will be open 7 days a week until Oct 31 2011.

By the way, I went to Pelican Pete's about a week ago. Took us 1 1/2 hours to get our food and I am not exaggerating. Didn't even offer us a free dessert. We were not drinking so I guess that was the problem.

Pelican Pete's seems to be the place of choice for lake tourists. I'll check out Holiday in the next week or so. Thanks for the tip.

We stopped at Holiday last year for a bite to eat and one basket of chicken fingers was around $15! I had to pass up that price even though I was about to faint from hunger. lol Thats like 2 or 3 dozen bluebacks(depending where you get them from) or a few lures! Hopefully their prices are more realistic now.

This is why ya'll a grill for your boat. No time for 10 or 15 dollar frozen food when there's fish to be caught. I guess when the fishing is tuff, checking out the scenery at the marinas isn't so bad.
