This sin't like the global warming debate-- this problem is REAL and you can see it every time you go out to the lake.
All of us need to make a decision pretty quickly--- would you rather have green lawns or drinking water and a place to fish?

Put pressure on your neighbors and neighborhood businesses to stop wasting water we don't have to spare on manicured weed beds. Remember-- the more you feed and water it, the more you have to mow it.

maybe it'll get low enough for me to retrieve my old bass boat that went under a few years ago.

Speaking of low lake levels... I use this site to keep an eye on current Lanier conditions:

http://tinymicros.com:8080/lanier/

By the way, is there a good website to see which ramps are currently open? I keep putting-in at Tidwell, but would like to put in closer to the Chestatee. Thanks in advance.

Nevermind... google found it for me. This looks like a great site for checking the status of ramps:

http://www.lakelanier.info/boat-ramps/

Maybe these URLs will help someone else.

By the way -- thanks to all for posts on this forum. I'll pipe-up when I learn more. All I know for sure at this point is that I love fishing. I've been getting spots only, but keep trying for striper. Trying again tomorrow morning. I'm bringing my kids... my 8-year-old daughter would get the biggest kick out of anything over a few pounds.

We're down to 12 ramps at 3pm on 7/11/2008, according to COE:

Ballus Creek
Big Creek
Charleston
Clarkes Bridge
East Bank
Little Hall
Little River
Old Federal
Shoal Creek
Tidwell
Van Pugh North
War Hill (3 feet of water)

To confirm that a boat ramp is open or closed, call the Corps of Engineers at 770-945-9531 or 770-945-1467.

It's not looking very good is it. Maybe we'll get some tropical weather this summer to get the lake up...we're def. going to need it...
