am bringing boat and family to crooked river state park at the end of this month-- if anyone has any tips on fishing the river or cumberland island, as well as good tackle shops nearby, i'd greatly appreciate it. will trout and reds still be around at that time?
thanks!

The fishing down there should be great then you should be able to catch fish on a poppin float and shrimp near cumberland. Christmas creek is always a good place to try, If you want you could also go anchor up on some of the sand bars nearshore and catch a lot of sharks, but if ya want to get into the bigger ones try to stay close to the shrimp boats when they throw there bycatch it gets crazy, stop by the store one day and I'll help you out as much as I can we've got a pretty good little inshore saltwater section.

Hey Chris--- many thanks for the advice. I'd heard about fishing in Christmas creek, but also heard you have to be VERY careful about tide changes there.
I'll definitely swing by before we go!

Very true you do have to be careful in there with the tide changes, I'll talk to you more about it when you stop by.

Chris,
never did get to stop by the shop, it was a crazy week-- but things worked out at crooked river; shrimp was rare & expensive for bait so i used a cast net to catch finger mullet and mud minnows. mostly did well on jigs though-- trout and tons of bluefish. never made it up to christmas creek-- apparently there's a sand bar that blocks entrance to it halfway up cumberland island, so i wasn't eager to push all the way out there just to get in trouble. talked the wife into going back for thanksgiving (and redfish) in the fall-- maybe will try then!
anyway-- i found a particular spot that held fish every time we went; will tell you where when i finally swing by the shop
thanks

Great to hear that you got on some good fish. When you get back down there in November the bull reds may still be nearshore on the bars. I have neever got a chance to go down there then but I have heard that it is fantastic fishing that time of year. Look foward to you stopping by.
