Spent last week on St. George Island FL and with all the wind we were limited to fishing the surf with 4 & 5 oz lead. We found a hole/wash thru on Monday and the fish were there. The next three days we fished this one location through the incoming tide, which worked out really nice since the high tide was at 2pm at the earliest. We ended up catching over 30 keeper specs, one 26" red, one good size black drum, seven big bull pompano, a boat load of nice whiting, several scrappy bluefish and your various throw backs...sharks, cats, ladyfish, sting rays...

I've never caught this many species out a single surf location and never gotten this many quality fish in the surf ever.

For bait we tried everything from live bull minnows & finger mullet to sand fleas but we caught most everything on fresh dead shrimp fished on the bottom. What a blast!

Nice report Droop! We'll be heading down to St. Marks in a few weeks to do our annual inshore trip. Last year we boated 20 different species of fish and only got to keep 3 of the different types. I usually keep a list of the fish we catch be cause of the variety in the ocean. Live pin fish and shrimp work real good but by the afternoon we switch to Gulp shrimp under a popping cork.

thanks Lil Bill, I spoke with some guy's that were fishing the bay side and they were wearing out the red fish using pin fish. nice thing about using larger live baits is you don't get all that trash.

Good Luck in St. Marks....should be great fishing!
