April 30th: 2nd Annual Lake Lanier Kids Striper Fest

Get Kids Fishing Foundation has partnered with the Gwinnett and Forsyth County Sheriff’s Departments for a morning of striper fishing.
This is going to be our 2nd annual great striper-fishing event for the kids and the officers will probably enjoy it as much. Last year GKF² managed to gather 23 volunteer boats. This year we would happy to match the 23 boats or better yet have more boats. Nothing better then watching a child catch a 10#, 20# even 30# Lake Lanier striper- PRICELESS. Here is a small breakdown of who we are, a summery of what to expect on event day and a list of invited attendees:

On April 30, 2011, GKF² will have 20+ boats and captains meeting at Van Pugh Park- North in Gainesville, Georgia. GKF² has partnered with the Gwinnett and Forsyth County Sheriff’s Departments and is asking for 20+ kids and 10+ officers from each office. The kids need to fall between 5yrs and 15yrs of age and have an interest in fishing. Ideally, we would like to offer this event up to the less fortunate. The kids and officers will be loading onto the boats at 700am and returning from fishing by 1200pm. Lunch will be provided at 1230pm and we will be announcing the big fish, first fish and most fish during lunch. Things should be finishing up around 130pm. THIS IS A FREE EVENT FOR THE KIDS and OFFICERS! Local guides and captions will furnish all the boats, bait, gas, rods/reels and snacks. All the officers will need to bring are the kids and a youth life preserver per child (we have some but not enough for everybody). Should be a great day and we hope to get 50+ kids introduced to Lake Lanier striper fishing, educated on the species while teaching them how to protect the fish and our waterways.
As far as attendees, we have invited all the local news channels, Gwinnett Gladiators hockey team (if they don’t make post season play), Atlanta Thrashers hockey players, and local football and baseball professionals. There is no guarantee that any or all the above will attend but a good chance to see a few. The kids will all have an opportunity for pictures and autographs.

GKF² practices Catch and Release so no coolers and no fish will go home with the kids.
