Got word yesterday that the black caddis hatch is in full swing on the hooch; 14-16's as i understand it. Put my boat in the shop today, so I'll be wading with a fly rod for striper bait this weekend. I get a strong feeling lanier's gonna explode in the next two days.....sigh....
will post if the hooch report's good. any fishing is good fishing, and any catching's always a bonus

Never made it to the river, but a friend sent me a report from monday. The caddis are in the trees, but they were releasing from morgan falls and the river was muddy. This was an unscheduled release, which seems like a bad idea for anyone fishing just downstream of the dam....

The fish are there-- it's delayed harvest and they've stocked pretty heavily-- but when the river's high and muddy it's rough fishing
For those interested, the website for real-time river flow and turbidity can be found here: http://waterdata.usgs.gov/ga/nwis/uv?dd_...ite_no=02336000

Any flow ~ 1000 cf/sec is low and good; turbidity greater than 10 is coffee with cream

This info is from the gauge that is located just upstream of Hwy 41 at Paces Mill. It takes about 12 hrs after Buford starts releasing before water levels rise this far down the river, and that assumes Morgan Falls is open as well.
