Someone please give us some details on the theft that is going on around the lake. Felt everyone needs to know. Apparently a few places have been hit in the last few weeks. I don't know all the details. This is about all I know. Someone please bring us up to speed and keep your eyes open fro anything suspicious.

Sorry to hear that Bruner. Is there no security at these places?

Not really, just a pad locked gate, and anyone can jump over it. I've been checking craigs list and ebay to see if it pops up somewhere, but after listening to you guys talk about your fancy electronics it looks like i will be going to BPS to get me some, and also find a new place.

never used a boat storage-- is it standard for them to assume responsibility for theft or not? Seems like if the answer's "not", then there's little incentive for them to provide anything other than chainlink and a padlock (for which the number of keys or distribution of the combination is probably not very well controlled).

Really sorry to hear that the scum swam to the surface near your rig, bruner. As a recipient of a visit from such dirtbags myself, I really, really do hope there's a hell....

No it is not standard for them to assume responsibility. Had a high dollar prop stolen several years ago from a storage facility. Feel your pain.

So it sounds like only boat storages have been hit or have any of the marinas on the water been hit? I heard they are prying open the rod lockers and stealing high end reels.

the sad part is if the law does catch them, they will only get a slap on the wrist and wont be charged for more than they are caught doing. Best case is the right victim catches them and breaks their wrist and give them good reason not to do it.

My buddy and I experienced some of these problems back a few years ago and it was at his boat slip at Six Mile. I went to Radio Shack and got these motion detectors that work off of a key remote and if you get up in the boat the alarm goes off if you don't hit the remote before. It was right at 60 bucks for two alarms and they worked. The neighbor heard the alarm go off one evening called the cops and went to the slips and one neighbors boat was sinking (pure vandlism)but they were caught before they could even get back across the creek. Good work Forsyth County. Across in the woods there was many fishing rod & reels found, a canoe and many other items. We got our things back as well.

Many of these items mostly go to large flea markets like Pendergrass in Jefferson, Ga. & Collinsville, Al.

If the cops only come by car they will have a hard time catching a thief in a boat. If someone ever shoots one of these ba$tard$ I hope I'm on the jury 'cause he would never get convicted. mad

I guess I'm the paranoid sort. I don't even like leaving my deep cycle batteries "locked" in the storage hold. Any jackwagon can pop one of those locks.

Heck, I won't even leave electronics and rods in my car overnight, let alone my boat.

My dad had an entire OMC outdrive taken off his boat the night before lobster mini season about 10 years ago in the Keys. It was the only thing of value on the boat at the time that could be unscrewed and sold.

Edit: my dad and I just talked and he said that they had to cut a chain off the outdrive to steal it.

I have at times come back to a ramp and have kids or others hanging out on the dock, I drop the trolling motor pull it out a little with the I Pilot to keep hands out of the boat while I get my truck. Heard a lot of stories of stuff stolen while they go and get the trailer.
