Went out striper fishing early Sunday morning and my Lowrance was not working properly.

The bottom of the chart would not fill in to show the full bottom. There was only a thick line (about half an inch) with white below it.

The digital depth reader in the top left of the screen was also going crazy (25 ft, then 100 ft, then 50 ft., etc., all when sitting still).

The severity of the problem varied during the trip.

Does anyone have any suggetions on this? Is there a good place to take the Lowrance for service?

Hard to downline BB's when you don't have the fishfinder working correctly. Did manage to find one school of stripers and caught one around 5 lbs but spent more time messing with the unit than fishing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Brent

Try the transducer. It might have been kicked out of alighnment. If it is through the hull ck the position and make sure it is still where it need to be. Also ck the conections at the unit and at the power source. I hope this helps. If you have already ck all of these things I give up. Someone else probably knows more than I do.

Thanks Reel Time,

I checked the transducer, which is mounted on the rear, and it only moves slightly but not enough to make a difference (tried it both ways).

I reconnected the unit about 10 times and it did not make a difference.

I went on the Lowrance page and they said to try resetting the unit to factory settings as a firts option. I will try that next time out on the water & go from there.

Hey Brent. Which unit do you have? Most likely the transducer.

Hey Clay,

I have the x-104c unit. We looked at the transducer and it looked level. Do they go bad?

Thanks,
Brent

Put the new transducer on yesterday and it worked like a charm.

Wish the fishing would have been as successful. I pulled leadcore from 6-mile toward the dam and back and didnt get a bite. 1st time trying it so with I would have had better luck. Was nice not having to clean out the herring tank after fishing though!
