well I have been on the water the last couple of mornings. Anywhere from yellow creek to thompson creek. No trolling just docks and brush. On both days a did really good the first hour of day light. At times it was every cast catching fish from 2 foot to 10 foot down in 23 feet of water. Then its like someone hit the switch and they shut down. Doesnt seem to matter where I am fishing is the same story. You can move around the rest of the day and manage a couple here and there but the best bite has been at day break. I havent tried the afternoon bite but its probably the same with the bite starting just before dark. I talked to a few others on the lake and its been the same for them. I have caught some good fish the last couple of days as far as the average size. Good enough to bring in 7 for a tourney and do ok. Wouldnt get big fish but that will change soon enough with spring coming around the bend. I will more than likely keep fishing docks and brush most of the month but come Feb. I will have all the lines in the water trolling and waiting for the big uns to show up. Water has been 43 to 41 ( north end ) and catching fish from 2 foot down to 25 feet later in the day.
For those who have not joined us yet in the Lanier Crappie Anglers come to a meeting or the next outing to see what were about. Everyone is welcome to come to the fish fry at the end of the month. See ya on the water

Oh, I know. post are worthless with out pics. lol The wife and kids are out of town and she took the camera but I will have some for ya next week if I can catch em. Didnt keep any fish the last couple of days as I just dont need em right now. As they say, if ya want to catch good fish, dont have a camera in the boat.

Is stained water better? The few times I have got on them good the water was stained and they seemed to bite around the clock. It's hard for my self to switch from throwing a 7ft M/H rod with 20# braid to a 5ft rod with 4lb test. I usually go through about $20 bucks worth of jigs before I get the hang of it. Thanks for the detailed report!!

well the fisherman prefer stained water like you find on the north end as you can be closer to the fish with out spooking but there are plenty of big slabs on the south end too. With clear water the fish may be more pick as to what they hit. When the water has a stain and visibility is 3-4 feet you can get more reaction strikes from the fish as their food source comes in and out of visibility in a much shorter time. I use a lot of the 10-2 and 4 >1 power pro braid. it helps get your lures back more. when dock fishing I use the 4 and when on brush I use the 10.
