I'm planning a vacation for the upcoming year down at SGI. Went last year in first month of June and fishing was not great. I'm thinking about October - anyone have a feel for this month offshore and inshore. We'll be fishing offshore reefs from 10-15 miles out and in the bays.

We used to go out of Destin in Oct and it was good. You must be careful about hurricane season though. Oct should be good as the spring and summer has been running a little later. In May we have been going out like 40-50 miles. If I want to take a 3 hr boat ride each way I can burn a tank of gas at the lake! The redfishing is great but the sea trout is spotty then. Don't know what SGI is but hope this helps some.

SGI=St. George Island...it's just off the coast near Apalachicola!

Gotya! I fished St Joe Bay last July. Same area we drove over there one day. We mostly went for scallops. We had a good time doing that. I will look into the fishing down there in that time and let you know. The Lanier Striper Club went there in the spring and fished. I will ask some of them what they did.

Thanks I appreciate it. We drove over to St. Joes/San Blas last year just to look around. Interesting area and I hear the fishing can be fantastic. What is the depth in the St. Joes Bay?

We found 60 to 80 ft bottoms.in the channel. we mostly fished the shallow water around 15 ft. we were fishing grass beds with openings between them. we stayed on cape san blas and fished and scallopped that side. I did see a shark in the middle of the bay that was cool.

Interesting. I had thought that bay looked like it would be all flats 2-4 ft. Thanks for the info.
