I guess the main point to stress in this report is that if you leave your leadcore rods at home, you've really missed the boat. That's not to say that fish can't be caught on the downrod, but they are widely scattered and you can be far more effective with (stinking) leadcore.

Our only downrod fish of the day was what I call a MINNER:

I took a few pictures of leacore fish, but they were struggling to go back, so I stopped. Here are a few random pictures:

Good old fashioned Mack Farr jigs tipped with the type trailers that have been in stores for years (and not selling out every day) produced the best number and biggest fish.
The guy shown in the red shirt in one of the pics lost a HELLUVA fish on leadcore. 2 oz Farr jig running a 8" pearl swimbait paddle tail. The fish hit, he turned the fish for a half color and that was it, that was all he could do with it. I didn't respond fast enough to that fish and really should have turned the boat for the guy.
Big thanks to Jeff B.....I was about a half mile away from the fish and about to go to the house before you called.

Weather was great, boat traffic was horrible, wind was kicked up pretty decent, water temp - seems like 82 or 84, leadcore fished about 9 colors back with 1 oz and 1 1/2 oz jigs. I started fishing the 2 oz jig because I broke one leadcore off - I was running it the only 7 1/2 colors left on the reel and it was catching a bunch of fish too.
