To all Lanier Striper aficionados: it is very evident that the Dan and Jan Team has a mysterious and almost mystical charm over the Stripers, many unparalled fishing skills, and an unmatched knowledge of the wiley Striper.
Okay Dan, I wrote exactly what you told me to write; now, keep your side of our agreement and tell me where you caught those fourteen fish! LOL.
While I was unable to match your catch, I had a farily good three day stretch. Fished August 13, 14, and 15 with bait, lead core, and the down riggers.
Friday was a good day - we caught seven fish in the mouth of a creek with bait and the down riggers. On the way back to the ramp, we got lucky and caught three below Six Mile.
Saturday started slow but the tempo quickened when we got over an 80ft bottom with active fish. In an attempt to get more bites I changed the leaders to 12 pounds. We got more bites but not necessarily more fish to the boat. After I lost four consecutive/good hookups, the crew sent me to "time-out". They performed very well and landed seven solid fish; the Captain got "extra duty" and no chocolate donuts.
On Sunday the fish turned up their noses to the bait; so, we switched to the down riggers and lead core. We found a significant number of fish in a large area. The crew wanted to troll. Before I could place the first line in the release (down line), a surprising but very strong bite nearly pulled me off the transom into the lake! I was able to pass the rod to a fifteen year old who had never caught a Striper. Result: 14 pounder. Before I could get my camera on, he threw it overboard and said, "Let's get one bigger for the camera." We caught four more before the Stripers waved their white flag and departed. Caught some more in deep water off the Islands with the down riggers.
On Thursday afternoon, August 12, I fished on Captain Dan Saknini's boat. He found several good schools - a slow power reel with Herring resulted in eight nice fish. Thanks again, Dan.

p.s. Dan, I am still waiting on your call.
