Just got back from my trip to SGI. Had a blast running the boat in saltwater for the first time-was pleased how she handled the bigwater offshore. After running inshore for a couple of days getting our feet wet and tiring of catching whisker fish and sharks, we ventured off shore to "C" Tower out of Sikes Cut in about 82 feet roughly 16 miles out.
We had just put 3 dozen pinfish in the Super Bait tank and headed out. Unbeknownst to me, somewhere during the trip out the bait tank crapped out. After finding the tower, positioning and anchoring the boat, I noticed the "quiet" behind me and fearing the worst, looked inside to see a couple of sideways swimmers and a mess of floaters. We quickly put the best of the lethargic few out and down and I went to work on the tank. A 20" gag grouper and a small mutton snapper (both undersized) were quickly put in the boat but I couldn't get pics, because I had my hands full. It turned out I had a corroded splice connection and by the time I respliced, all of the remaining pinfish were dead. We tried using heads, tails and bucktails but all we could bring up were sharks like the one below

Winds and storms (like below) kept us inshore the balance of the week for more cats and sharks. We did put several specks, white trout, tons of Ladyfish and a small spanish in the boat-the kids we were with had a great time and everyone on board caught at least one shark.
