Had a good day on the water yesterday; got a late start as it involved getting my 17 yr old daughter to come along. However, she's a great fisherman and i owed her a trip, so it was worth it. We weren't on the water until after 9:30, and most of the action came between 10-1 pm.
Put in at Old Federal, pulling BB's and casting around all the islands from the ramp on out to the channel. Caught a good number of fat spots on both lures and the BB's (biggest ~5 lbs came on live bait; treble stingers made some difference but not much on hook-ups; didn't really affect the number of hits, which is good to know). My daughter had me 3-1 on lures, but i had her on size on most catches--- of course we argued quality vs quantity the whole trip! My excuse was that i was busy with the live bait lines, which were getting quite a bit of action. Her response was to quit doing the lazy stuff and fish! She was tossing a Rapala x-rap; I was working a McStick pro. Slow, steady retrieve worked best.
Picked up a few more spots on the west side across from Mud Creek, and then finally found several of the rare and elusive striper. Biggest was 12-13 lbs, which ain't a monster but by God the rod bending and drag stripping was why I was out there!
The fish are almost as round as they are long--- I thought the big stripe would go close to 20, it was so fat. They are definitely scattered; never saw any on the graph and each of the several stripes we landed came from different points. The run from point to point is the only strategy that's working right now, i guess. I'll be back out there again asap.
