Ken and I fished today (I was capt, that explains the lack of catching!) Thought we would try the river out. Launched at Lula - Strongly NOT recommended if you have a real boat, the barge is now also a plow.Saw Nick and Chris coming up from the power lines in the shocking boat as we headed over the bridge to the ramp. As we launched the boat they were headed up - oh poo.
Headed up to a few miles past belton till we ran into Nick and Chris and watched them shock up some nice walleye. As they continued up, put baits out and headed down. Well we fished on down past mud, past belton, past the dredge, past lula, past the power lines down to the shallow water markers. Not a bite, sniff or swirl. Chris and Nick came back down while we were at the dredge - they shocked up ZERO stripers the entire day.
Water temps were pretty much 52/53 everywhere.
Must be a little too early. Had nice gizz and trout of all sizes up to 1.5lbs out.
Be careful if you head up that way, the high water has many stump fields, sand bars and last years brush just under the surface. Many, Many acres of water that looks fine that I KNOW is NOT. It was easier/safer with the water low and a clearly defined channel. Quite a few new log piles in mid channels areas that were not there in the fall. Other then stopping up my visual water pump indicator (pee hole) nothing bad happend.
Love the new i-pilot - the wind was gusting today and the cruise control is VERY nice. Wind starts blowing head on, motor speeds up automatically, wind stops the motor slows you down. Very nice feature.
Going to try somewhere else tomorrow for sure.
