Will the crappie move out of the high run-off areas or will they hold to the docks and structure they were on before the rain (regardless of the muddy water conditions)?

The crappie in those areas will still be around, they may move a little but they wont go far.The bite can shut off in those areas for awhile but give it a day or 2 and they will start back feeding again

Thanks for the reply and welcome to the forum smile

I used to be able to catch crappie by the bucket-fulls in Michigan and had done so from the age of 5 till the time I left for the service. Mostly through the ice. When I moved to Georgia, those times ceased. This is the first season I have fished this lake and I am learning that it does not come easy in the south. Or at least Lanier....for any species.

Gonna get back out there Friday and hit Toto if I have time to get up there. If not, I'll try 4 mile again.

The water conditions may stabilize by that time.

you may want to try and find better fish than the toto area. I am done fishing up that way for now. The area is getting hit really hard. Time to try some of my old spots for some better fish

I was really set on heading to Toto friday. I keep hearing that i need to stay away from the south end if i want some slabs for the freezer. I would hate to drive up north to Toto all the way from dacula and find out that the infamous abundance of crappie up there has terminated.

Are you indicating that the crappie have been over pressured and they have just plain turned off or that they have moved out?

Thanks for the insight smile

there are still plenty of fish up that way but when you get all those people fishing the same area your chances of really good fish go way down because they may have already been caught. I just prefer to fish less crowed areas so when I get in to some good fish, chances are good I can go back in a day or 2 and they will still be there. learning to shoot docks helps and getting good really helps. You can fish docks that others cant. Find a dock with a door on it with an inch of space and thats where I want to fish. Also look for spider webs. Its a good sign no body else has hit that dock lately and there can be fish under any dock this time of year

Thanks for the heads up on high fishing areas. It has kind of made me think about heading to the Clarks Bridge area instead.

I am just going to stay away from the south end if I am going to target the slabs this time of year. At least until I get confident enough and find the types of docks that produce the most efficiently.

Awesome insight on dock shooting as well. I would not have thought about those characteristics to search for in a dock.
