What is a good starter baitcasting setup for striper fishing? New to the area and new to the sport. I have been fishIng lake Martin my whole life. Mostly spot fishing there some striper fishing in April when there are up on the flats early in the morning with some topwater action. If anyone ever needs someone to fish with them on the weekend just let me know I really would like to learn how to fish this body of water. Depends mostly on the style of fishing you are looking to do. The best general advice I can give you is to select a reel with a solid drag. People use a wide range of rods and reels, and it really comes down to preference. The biggest factor is going to be quality. You can wear spots out all day on a cheap $20.00 spinning reel, but if you ever get a decent striper hooked up you might as well kiss your reel good bye.
