I fish out of a Carolina Skiff 238DLV (newer modified V hull). It is a great fishing boat, but just like anything else, it has it's advantages and disadvantages.

When fishing, it can hardly be beat. Great boat.

When riding however, if the water is choppy, the ride can get pretty rough at times. Usually I can deal with that part. I get more aggravated at the unloading (by myself) feature of the boat. A DLV model has a shelf that you have to drive up on the roller and with that said, you have to back the boat in VERY deep to unload the boat. That is a real pain when the water/weather is very cold and you can't (or don't want to get wet).

Believe it or not, if I had my chance to get another Carolina Skiff, I would probably go with the DLX model. It is more of a flat bottom style boat, which means the ride would be even rougher. The DLX's will get you wet at times too (and I haven't had that problem with the DLV). BUT, they are easily unloaded - which should let you know how much of a pain it is to unload a DLV by yourself.

All in all, Carolina Skiff is a lot of boat for the money and was originally designed for crabbing just off the coast. You can tell that when you look at them. They are very simply designed and typically have a lot of floor space when you compare them to a bay style boat - that's what makes them great for fishing.

Good Luck.
