Ken, I fish with a X104 the large one. It is great once you adjust the sensitivity and color levels that makes "picture" sense to you. Most of these color graphs are best switched to manual settings not "auto-Lowrance". Sensitivity and color are set in the mid to higher 80's range by most people. I think these ranges do/will work better for you. I switch off auto depth also and set the depth rangesas I fish. Color units are very different than the gray shades and some people do not like them. Some of the earlier ones have a problem with bright sun directly on the screen. Lowrance did a screen change that fixes the problem. The X104 is too large for some boat setups as the 10.5 inch screen may block your view. The X15 and X19 are popular SO I guess the X20 would be a good unit. Hope this helps. Good info Capt Dave. I recently purchased a boat and the X104 unit as well. After messing with it while on the lake Thursday, I think I have the settings pretty well screwed up. I will try your recommended settings. I assume I need to set it back to factory settings and then start fresh from there.

Bigfsh,
It may be best to reset to factory settings. Then remove the auto-majic from Lowrance. Then set the sensitivity and color as I mentioned in the mid to upper 80's (86-88). Adjust them to your preferences. Get a solid definition line of the bottom and clearer definition of trees/brush vs. fish. Check your transponder location and setting to make sure your transponder is square to the lake bottom (not boat bottom) and that the center line of your transponder is even with the boat bottom. Some times when people attach the transponder they are not careful to make sure that the unit is square to the lake/ground and that the center line of the transponder is even with the bottom of the boat (needed to get a true arc for fish). Also try to adjust your chart speed according to the speed that you are moving. Full speed when looking for fish with the big motor and a little slower when using the trolling motor. Gives beter definition to the fish movement. Hope that helps. Capt Dave Bush aboard the Lady Rose".

Great info Capt Dave...I really appreciate it. I'm heading up to the lake now to fish today and tomorrow and fishing Wed & Thurs as well. Hopefully we can catch a few. I'll take your suggestions and run with them.

Thanks again.
