Fished Friday and again Saturday my first attempt in the Oakwood Club tournament. Decided to stay up north because my boat was at my dock. The water temp at my home just above Clarks Bridge was 47 degrees on Friday and very stained. As I moved south it got colder, 45 at Laurel Park, 43 at the pumping station and 41.5 at the American Legion. Found 47 degrees in the back of Gainesville Creek, but no fish. It was about 1 degree colder in some places on Saturday. Found lots of birds and bait in Wahoo and Little River and some fish, but none hungry. Pulled trout, gizzards, threadfins, minnows and u-rigs. Tried some u-rigs with very small jigs trying to match the threadfin bait. Added 3 oz. sinkers to get down in the water column better. Nothing worked. Cold, windy day Saturday made things even worse. There were several boats up north and I talked to some who had the same results as me.
Got the u-rigs hung several times, but happy to report the new braid worked just like John and Larry at Oakwood Bait said it would. Never lost a rig, only 3 jigs. When is spring due??
